Sometimes women warriors have lives outside of slaying beasts and decimating armies! Not often, though.
This is one of two pieces I have in the WOMEN WARRIORS ZINE that I have been putting together along with my two mighty collaborators Abby Boeh and Julia Scott! This FANTASTIC BEAST OF A ZINE will be debuting at MoCCA and include the artwork of over 25 truly excellent illustrators, so please check it out come April 6th & 7th in NYC!
Making a big zine like this has been a truly amazing experience. I’m blown away by the amount of interest in the project, but above all, I’m truly humbled by the variety and sheer talent of everyone who’s contributed.
I’ve always loved this concept, switching the “traditional” gender roles of a warrior and their lover. This is beautiful.

Enfyse Hier-Heulog was once a mercenary in the ancient Red-and-Burning-Star Cavalry Corps of the Plains King; due to circumstances she keeps to herself, she left and is now a sword-for-hire, roaming the six kingdoms killing and fighting as is convenient. The Sorceror-Lord Tanabassum of Yomstol, whose family has long possessed a genetic affinity for the supernatural arts, hires Hier-Heulog for a very special and lucrative job: as the outward kingdom of Greater Arduition advances upon Yomstol with a great army, the Lord Tanabassum is sending his daughter, Rima, who possesses no natural talent for sorcery, away and to safety with Hier-Heulog as her bodyguard.
The two women are as different as night and day, and the failure of the Lord Tanabassum’s plan seems imminent. But even as familiarity breeds contempt, shared danger can bring opposites together: soon, the dusty mercenary from the North and the pampered Lanna from the eldest family of the eldest kingdom in the World begin to form a bond not even the Sorceror-Lord could have anticipated.

…then in the season three finale they have another close call and they have a girl-hug when they reunite but then the sorceress kisses the mercenary and the mercenary is shocked but then she kisses back…
I haven’t drawn in ages but then I saw sigtryggr’s OC’s and they gave me so many feelings. They are so lovely and original. I took a lot of artistic liberties here. I figure, it’s the third season when they finally kiss, so some things have changed. The sorceress has some freckles and a sunburn (which I probably made too light) from being out in the sun more. I fiddled with the armor and then added dirt and mud since battles are hawt.
